Exposure to articles like this is of tremendous value to a nerd like me, well worth the cost of website membership.
TIL crystals formed but not yet cooled, deep in the Earth (13 km “water depth”), act like a solid state bubble chamber and record various energetic events with great resolution. The freak high energies reported here are just the icing on the cake.
I recommend folks give it a read. At only 4 pages long, it is not hard to get through.
