Looks like we’re regularly getting more validation for Neal Adams’ expanding earth (and other planetary bodies) theory when exposed to higher levels of cosmic rays. Ben, have you looked into (and/or debunked) this theory?
What’s to debunk? Geological record speaks for itself.
Thanks and excellent reporting!
Thank you. This will be interesting to watch. One wonders if there will be spurts of extreme widening here and there that were unforeseen, like a sinkhole appearing, or if it will just rift-drift along with time.
A preview of the he US east coast, after the New Madrid triggers the collapse of the decayed plate breath perhaps?
Just want to mention that the rift valley has been known about for decades, and the plates are indeed pulling apart. The papers – both of them (I read them) – are models and actually are comparing the models to each other and finding disagreements. It’s not that a measurement was corrected, they are literally just in disagreement. So they could be very wrong on the plate movements, or the edge of the plate could be moving differently than the center of mass. The plate could be buckling interiorly.
There are plenty of ways to reconcile, but what’s important is what field geologists have noted, and yes, they have known about the rift valley for a long, long time, even previous to either of these papers or models.
Death Valley has the same rift behavior despite the Pacific coast sliding past one another.
