In yellow, you can see we finally are taking faster particles, and below in green you can see that they are of considerably higher plasma temperature. This is the later portion of the coronal hole stream. Density in orange is not dropping quickly…

…so we get geomagnetic instability. This is something to watch develop this evening.

Update: 8:40am Eastern Time

Earthquake Condition Index: B+, trending up. We’ve seen a slight downtick during this more-moderate period of index score, but the downturn will be short-lived, and the index is set to rise again on the incoming coronal hole of opposite polarity, the space-weather potential, and in only 6 days, Mercury will conjoin the sun.
